THE STORY OF US AND GOATS

My hubby and had some discussions about getting a goat to eat all the brush on our land, which means Jerry wanted to get a goat and I didn't.  In Oregon, blackberries are invasive, which is the understatement of the decade.  We have about four acres, three of which are buried in about 10' tall blackberries.  I'm serious.  If you're from Oregon, you know what I'm talking about.  If you're not and feel this is an exaggeration, let me know.  I'll send you pictures.  I told Jerry we didn't need a goat, I'd just keep pulling blackberry vines and hacking them back so they didn't take over the house.  I came home one day to discover that we had a goat.  I wasn't happy about it - another animal I knew I'd fall in love with and end up taking care of.  On top of that, I didn't know a thing about goats and had never actually had the inclination to learn about them either.  Nothing personal, I was just very much a dog person.  The closest to livestock I had ever gotten close enough to owning was when we raised some quail and pheasants.  Right - not very close.

I'm now on just about every Yahoo! Group that exists that refers to goats and on several of the Livestock Guardian Dog groups as well.  I'm learning everything I can and everyone is very patient and sweet with me.  I don't feel quite as stupid anymore, but realize every day that I have tons more to learn.

I wanted to start a website so I could post pictures of my goats and ask questions about health concerns, etc.  I think it's a great way to do it.
